Senegal’s Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko recently announced a significant cabinet reshuffle, signaling a renewed push to address public discontent and economic challenges. The changes come amid growing criticism over the government’s pace in tackling high unemployment, poverty, and alleged past injustices. The shake-up includes Yassine Fall moving from foreign minister to justice minister, tasked with restoring public trust after delayed investigations into abuses under former president Macky Sall. Cheikh Niang becomes foreign minister, while Bamba Cisse, Sonko’s lawyer, takes over the interior ministry. Sonko pledged a “government of combat,” which will work around the clock to address the nation’s problems. With Senegal facing significant debt and social pressures, this restructuring aims to reinvigorate the administration’s agenda.
