Somalia and Djibouti have signed a new agreement for the additional deployment of Djiboutian troops to bolster security efforts in Somali territory. The deal outlines joint priorities, intervention protocols, and coordination mechanisms based on mutual respect and cooperation. It signals Djibouti’s continued commitment to regional peace, especially as Somalia faces renewed offensives by al-Shabaab militants. The terror group has recently intensified attacks in the Hirshabele state, seizing key areas and challenging the Somali National Army and local militias. Djiboutian peacekeepers, already stationed in towns such as Beledweyne and Buula-burte in the Hiraan region, play a vital role in African Union-led stabilization efforts. The new agreement strengthens their presence as the fight against al-Shabaab enters a critical phase.
