Somalia has firmly rejected US accusations that local officials seized food from a World Food Programme (WFP) warehouse, calling the allegations unfounded. This denial comes shortly after Washington announced a pause in its assistance, pending a full investigation into the alleged diversion of 76 metric tons of aid. However, Somali authorities assert that all supplies, including US-donated food, remain securely under WFP control at the Mogadishu Port, unaffected by ongoing expansion work. They say a technical inter-agency review is underway in coordination with humanitarian partners to clarify the situation. The standoff comes at a delicate moment, as Somalia faces worsening hunger and funding shortfalls, and as Somali-related issues draw increasing political attention in the United States.
