South Africa has confirmed its interest in hosting the 2036 Summer Olympics, potentially becoming the first African country to stage the Games. Its proposal would see events held across Cape Town, Durban, and Johannesburg. South Africa’s interest makes it one of seven countries exploring bids to host the 2036 Games. Hungary, India, Qatar, and Turkey are also seeking to host the Games for the first time, with Budapest, Ahmedabad, Doha, and Istanbul serving as their proposed host cities, while Germany, with Munich, and South Korea, with Seoul and North Jeolla province, have hosted before. Interested countries must submit statements of interest by October 31, followed by virtual presentations in November and IOC feasibility assessments by March 2027. The 2028 Olympics will take place in Los Angeles, while Brisbane will host the 2032 Games, continuing the IOC’s search for future host cities.
