South Africa’s government has warned its citizens, particularly young women, to be wary of Russian job offers circulating on social media. This official caution follows reports that firms like Alabuga Start have been recruiting women aged 18 to 22 from Africa and other regions under the guise of legitimate employment. Investigations allege these offers are deceptive, with recruits often ending up in a military drone factory—a frequent target of bombings—rather than in the promised roles. South Africa’s Ministry for Women in the Presidency stressed that these offers have no government backing and vowed to engage stakeholders, including the Russian Embassy, on the matter. The warning echoes concerns from South Africa’s foreign ministry, which is investigating alleged recruitment schemes exploiting citizens under false pretenses.
