South Africa’s agricultural exports rose 10% in the second quarter of 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier, reaching a record $4.1 billion. The increase was driven by higher export volumes and stronger prices, according to the chief economist of the Agricultural Business Chamber of South Africa. Shipments to the United States climbed 56% from the first quarter, while exports to other African countries made up 40% of total shipments. The chamber said improved performance at the Port of Cape Town also supported exports. Agriculture has remained a bright spot in South Africa’s economy, supported by growth in citrus, other fruit and nut industries, and corn exports. However, the outlook faces risks from anticipated El Niño conditions, which typically bring drier weather to Southern Africa and could reduce grain and other harvests in the coming season.
