Airtel Africa has teamed up with SpaceX’s Starlink to deliver high-speed satellite internet to some of Africa’s most underserved regions. The rollout begins in nine countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, and the DRC, where connectivity gaps remain vast. The partnership aims to improve connectivity in Africa, with roughly 50% of the continent’s population offline, by pairing Starlink’s low-Earth orbit satellite tech with Airtel’s ground network and 163 million-strong subscriber base. The move promises enhanced internet access for rural communities, schools, hospitals, and businesses, with the added benefit of backhauling to expand Airtel’s mobile reach. It’s a bold play in Africa’s telecom race. If successful, it could reshape digital inclusion and encourage competition, leading to improved telecommunications across the continent.
