The Mycetoma Research Centre in Khartoum, established in 1991, was among the institutions destroyed. Founded by Professor Ahmed Fahal, the center was the only one dedicated to studying mycetoma, a neglected tropical disease. Fahal expressed profound loss, stating, “All that I did over 40 years has turned to ashes before my eyes.” The Sudanese National Academy of Sciences reports that over 100 universities and research centers have been damaged or looted, halting vital scientific and medical advancements.
