Tanzania’s mining industry delivered strong growth in 2025, increasing its contribution to GDP to 10.3% from 7.8% a year earlier as higher commodity prices and increased production boosted export earnings. Mineral exports climbed 31% to $5.4 billion, accounting for more than half of the country’s export revenue and overtaking tourism as its largest foreign exchange earner. A sharp rise in gold prices pushed gold exports to $4.7 billion, while mining-related taxes and royalties more than doubled over four years. Tanzania is also positioning itself as a major supplier of critical minerals, including graphite, nickel, rare earths, and helium, to benefit from growing global demand linked to clean energy technologies. At the same time, the government is strengthening local participation through stricter ownership, employment, and procurement rules while expanding geological surveys to attract new investment and unlock more of the country’s untapped mineral potential.
