The Bank of Uganda has Admitted that it Can’t Protect Ugandans from AI-generated Fraud

The Bank of Uganda recently warned about the hazards of artificial intelligence fraud in the country. It highlighted that this form of fraud has proven difficult to manage, and as presently constructed, it is unable to combat the problem. As a result, the BoU has urged individuals to exercise caution, as the taming of AI fraud falls beyond its control. “We can’t protect you from artificial intelligence-generated frauds, but we can arm you with information on how to protect yourself on the technology you use,” said Dr. Tumubweinee Twinemanzi, the executive director for supervision of the Bank of Uganda. During the event, Dr. Tumubweinee Twinemanzi spoke about financial stability, noting that one of the bank’s primary responsibilities is to ensure the financial stability of its citizens and combat anything that undermines this goal, particularly fraud.
