The UK has reaffirmed its commitment to Nigerian trade by maintaining 99% duty-free access for Nigerian exports under the Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS). Announced via the British High Commission’s official X handle, the move signals continued support for economic ties and development. Launched in 2023 to replace the older Generalized Scheme of Preferences, the DCTS simplifies trade rules, slashes tariffs, and eliminates restrictive conditions for 65 developing nations, including Nigeria. Beyond boosting Nigeria’s export opportunities, the scheme also helps UK consumers by lowering the cost of imported goods. As global trade becomes more competitive, this policy strengthens both sides’ commercial relationship while promoting inclusive economic growth.
