The United Nations has taken one of its starkest stands yet on Sudan’s devastating civil war, imposing sanctions on four Rapid Support Forces commanders accused of orchestrating mass atrocities in el-Fasher last October. UN experts say the violence—including targeted executions of non-Arab communities, widespread sexual violence, and the killing of thousands of civilians—bears the “hallmarks of genocide.” Among those sanctioned is a commander whose own self-recorded footage allegedly shows him boasting about killing over 2,000 people.
