Elon Musk’s Starlink is rapidly expanding its presence in Africa, offering satellite internet to the continent. Since its launch in Nigeria in January 2023, Starlink has made its way to 18 African countries, with recent launches in Liberia and Niger in early 2025. In West Africa, the service is also present in Benin, Sierra Leone, Ghana, and Cape Verde. In East Africa, it operates in Rwanda, South Sudan, Mozambique, Kenya, Malawi, Madagascar, and Burundi. In the southern part of the continent, Starlink is present in Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Eswatini. The service promises to enhance connectivity in nations where only 40% of people are online. However, regulatory hurdles have hindered its progress in some countries, including South Africa, Africa’s most advanced economy.
