The local organizing committee, which is not affiliated with FIFA, intends to host a “Pride Match” during Egypt and Iran’s Group G match on June 26, coinciding with Seattle Pride weekend. However, both nations, where homosexuality is illegal, have strongly objected. Egypt’s football association even sent a formal letter to FIFA requesting the cancellation of all related activities, calling them incompatible with their cultural and religious values. Despite the objections, the celebration will proceed as planned, with Seattle’s local organizing committee clarifying that the events will focus on citywide programming rather than in-stadium activities and remain committed to inclusivity, respect, and dignity for all fans.
