Cape Town Named 2026’s Best Value Winter-sun Destination

Cape Town has been named the best-value winter-sun destination for 2026 by the Post Office Travel Money barometer, which compares everyday holiday expenses across popular warm-weather destinations. The survey examines eight costs and experiences, including a three-course evening meal with wine for two, coffee, and essentials such as bottled water, sunscreen, and insect repellent. Cape Town recorded the lowest overall basket cost among the destinations surveyed, helped by having the cheapest three-course meal for two. Kenya’s Mombasa ranked second, while Tokyo, Colombo, and Phuket rounded out the top five. The Portuguese Algarve comes in at sixth, followed by Spain’s Costa del Sol at seventh and Tenerife at eighth. Penang, Malaysia, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, are the final two destinations on the list.
