Africa’s tourism sector is roaring back, led by nine countries embracing bold reforms and strategic investments. From visa-free access and premium tourist visas to modernized airports and expanded hotel offerings, nations like Kenya, Rwanda, and Ethiopia are transforming travel experiences. These reforms enable them to take advantage of a post-pandemic surge, which pushed international arrivals to the continent to 74 million in 2024—up 12% from 2023—and fueled $1.6 trillion in tourism revenue. Beyond this, the nine countries are also backing a unified African visa to boost seamless cross-border travel, thereby integrating the continent. By enhancing accessibility, connectivity, and sustainability, they are not just drawing record visitors but reshaping Africa into a premier global tourism hub.
