Morocco’s Rail Network Reveals Country’s Diverse Landscape

Morocco’s railway network combines historic routes with one of Africa’s most impressive transportation systems. The country is home to Al Boraq, Africa’s first high-speed rail service, which connects Tangier and Casablanca and can travel at speeds of up to 320 km/h. The route includes stops at Rabat Agdal and Kenitra, some of Morocco’s most scenic cities. For travelers seeking a slower experience, an overnight sleeper connects Tangier and Marrakesh, covering 560km and offering four-berth couchettes. Other useful routes include the direct Casablanca airport-to-city service and the seven-hour Al Atlas journey between Fez and Marrakesh, which passes through farmland, olive groves, Rabat, and Casablanca. Morocco also plans to extend Al Boraq from Casablanca to Marrakesh by November 2029 and eventually further south to Agadir. With the ease its transport infrastructure affords travelers, Morocco is becoming an even bigger draw for tourists than ever before.
