With the arrival of the wet season in Zambia, tens of thousands of wildebeest set out across Liuwa Plain National Park in Africa’s second largest migration. Drawn by fresh grazing grounds, the herds move north across expansive grasslands, trailed by predators like hyenas and cheetahs. Unlike East Africa’s Great Migration, Liuwa’s spectacle offers raw solitude—far from crowds. Alongside wildebeest, zebras, buffaloes, and tsessebes roam freely, while over 350 bird species arrive in tandem, including Africa’s largest population of wattled cranes. Once nearly lion-less, Liuwa is now home to a rebounding pride—a triumph of conservation anchored by the legacy of Lady Liuwa.
