Ugandan health officials have announced that the country’s latest Ebola outbreak has been contained, discharging the final eight patients initially diagnosed in January. According to the World Health Organization, this marks a significant milestone and reflects Uganda’s swift response measures. The outbreak claimed one life: a male nurse who died a day before the government declared the outbreak an epidemic. More than 265 contacts were identified, and 90 of them have already completed quarantine without showing any symptoms. Although there is no approved vaccine for the Sudan strain, the authorities have begun clinical studies to determine the safety and effectiveness of a trial vaccine. Uganda’s last Ebola outbreak, which began in September 2022, claimed at least 55 lives.
