Malawians primarily travel by road, with 70% of freight and 99% of passengers transported via this route. However, this leads to frequent traffic jams, necessitating the expansion of the country’s road network. Malawians use a combination of five vehicles for their transportation. One of these is the tuk-tuk, used for short commutes across town as well as within neighborhoods. However, it is notoriously slow and not recommended if you need to get somewhere fast. Another popular vehicle is the motorcycle – a faster and cheaper mode of transportation than the tuk-tuk. The third popular vehicle is the bicycle, locally known as the kabaza, while the fourth is a mix of public transport options such as taxis and buses. Finally, walking is popular among Malawians and is the fifth and final means of land transport in the country.
