With every generation shaped by its own unique banking experience, Rex Africa launches Nigeria’s first AI-native bank, bringing together every day financial services and AI-powered intelligence. Built for an increasingly intelligent world, Rex sets out to reimagine banking with Rex Atlas, an AI-powered financial agent designed to help people better understand their money, build healthier financial habits and make more informed financial decisions.
Nigeria has made significant efforts to bring more people into the formal financial system, with financial inclusion rising from 64% in 2023 to 73% in 2026, according to the 2026 Access to Financial Services in Nigeria (A2F) survey by Enhancing Financial Innovation & Access (EFInA). Yet, access alone does not guarantee meaningful financial participation or translate into access to essential services such as savings, credit and investments. With only about one in four Nigerian adults considered financially healthy, this highlights the need for banking experiences that understand individual needs and help improve financial outcomes.
Rex Africa is built around the idea that banking can do more than facilitate transactions. As Nigeria’s first AI-native bank, built on its own proprietary technology with AI interwoven from inception, Rex enables users to analyse their financial history and adapt to their changing financial needs. Through personalised recommendations, users are more informed on how to save and invest, as well as guidance tailored to their specific financial goals.
Traditional banks established the foundations of modern banking, commercial banks expanded access to financial services, and digital-first platforms made it possible to bank from a mobile phone. Yet, despite these advances, many banking experiences leave customers to navigate decisions about spending, saving and financial planning largely on their own. Businesses, meanwhile, continue to need better ways to manage cash flow, collections and access to appropriate financing.
“Every generation has experienced banking differently, shaped by the technology of its time. Our founding conviction at Rex is that the next generation of banking will be defined by intelligence. We believe banking should go beyond moving money to understanding customers and helping them manage, protect and grow their wealth,” said Yinka Odeleye, Founder of Rex Africa.
“We built Rex with AI at the heart of the banking experience, not as an additional feature. RexCore provides our proprietary banking infrastructure, while Rex Atlas brings the intelligence that makes banking more personalised, conversational and responsive to customers’ needs,” said Opeyemi Emmanuel, Chief Technology Officer at Rex Africa.
With Rex Atlas, the bank’s live, AI-powered financial agent, customers can interact with Rex conversationally and receive personalised guidance on how to save, invest, access appropriate credit, manage risk, and grow and protect their wealth. Beyond its AI-powered capabilities, Rex offers a comprehensive suite of financial services for individuals and businesses. For individuals, RexSave provides flexible savings, RexVault offers attractive returns on fixed-term savings, RexFlex offers access to credit, and RexCard supports everyday payments. For businesses, RexPOS enables payment acceptance, while RexCredit supports SME and corporate financing.
Together, these services are designed to meet the needs of customers at different stages of their financial lives, from students and first-time earners to young professionals, salaried workers, entrepreneurs and growing businesses. Rex’s approach to financial inclusion goes beyond access to an account, with a focus on helping customers save consistently and build greater security over time.
Rex is powered by Rex Microfinance Bank Limited, a financial institution licensed and regulated by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Eligible deposits are insured by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), subject to applicable coverage limits. The bank operates in accordance with relevant regulatory and data protection requirements, with measures designed to safeguard customers’ financial information and support the secure use of AI-powered services.
Following its launch this month, Rex has already attracted thousands of Nigerians and hundreds of businesses to its platform, reflecting growing interest in a more intelligent approach to banking.
Beyond its banking app, the company’s ecosystem includes an operating microfinance bank, an established lending business, and a live Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) portal supporting customer accounts, collections and payouts, powered by its proprietary RexCore technology.
With Nigeria as its immediate priority, the company plans to deepen digital adoption by combining modern technology with a deep understanding of local customers, communities and businesses. As Rex enters the market, its ambition is to build a financial platform that evolves with its customers, combining everyday banking services with artificial intelligence to meet changing financial needs and enable more informed financial decisions.
