Just as progress finally started to occur with the restitution of looted African art, a new twist in the saga has introduced a roadblock. Although the UK had planned to return the Benin bronzes to a new museum in Nigeria, a recent announcement by outgoing Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari has raised concerns that threaten to derail the entire repatriation process.
