Will the Smart City Planned for Senegal ever Come Up?

The first phase of the futuristic Akon City, designed and promoted by the singer Akon, was due to be delivered by the end of 2023. But to date, the pickaxes have not delivered a single blow. Officialised in 2018, the Akon City project was met with great enthusiasm in Senegal, where it initially had the support of the authorities and in particular President Macky Sall. A plot of land was acquired and ambitious 3D plans were drawn up. The start of construction was announced for 2021. But in November 2022, the singer was taken to task by his government partners. Because in the meantime, nothing had moved. Bombarded with proposals from hotel groups who have already proven themselves in Senegal and would like to reclaim the land leased to Akon for their own projects, some Senegalese authorities now seem to doubt the feasibility of the megalopolis.
