The first 100% electric public transport vehicle has been operating for eight months in Cape Verde. Since 2020, the island nation is promoting electric mobility with help from Germany. Cape Verde’s government has identified the promotion of electric vehicles as a strategy for reducing road transport-related greenhouse gas emissions as well as increasing the share of renewable energy in the energy mix, from 20 percent at present to 100 percent by 2040.
