Sudanese rebels from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have posted self-incriminating videos of torture and arson on social media, which could serve as evidence in future war crimes prosecutions. The RSF, accused of ethnic cleansing in Darfur, has been implicated in mass atrocities, including the deaths of over 10,000 people from the Masalit ethnic community in 2023. Verified footage shows fighters boasting about ethnic violence, torturing prisoners, and desecrating the bodies of civilians. Experts, including those at the Centre for Information Resilience (CIR), say these videos could play a key role in international criminal investigations, with the International Criminal Court already calling for visual evidence from Darfur. Observers note that such self-filmed footage not only documents atrocities but also reflects a sense of impunity among perpetrators, similar to past war crimes cases in Bosnia and Syria.
