Earlier this month, The Long Wave visited Antananarivo, Madagascar, for British-Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare’s first major solo exhibition on African soil. Hosted at Fondation H, the landmark show marks a significant cultural moment for both the artist and the often-overlooked Malagasy art scene. The trip, which involved over 15 hours of travel from London via Addis Ababa, revealed a country rich in scenic beauty and artistic potential. With rolling green plains and a growing creative community, Madagascar left a lasting impression. Shonibare’s exhibition not only celebrated African identity and global histories, but also helped elevate the island nation’s cultural profile.
