Electric vehicles are quietly gaining momentum across Africa as rising fuel costs and urban pollution push countries toward cleaner, cheaper transport solutions. Leading the charge is Ghana, with around 17,000 EVs thanks to generous duty waivers and a surge in two- and three-wheeler use. Morocco and South Africa follow closely, with each country boasting over 400 charging stations and strategic policy incentives. Tanzania and Ethiopia round out the top five, capitalizing on e-bikes, tuk-tuks, and renewable energy. With more than a dozen African nations set to roll out national EV policies by 2025, the continent is poised for a green transport revolution driven by local innovation, foreign investment, and a shared vision for sustainable mobility.
