Nigerian opposition leader Peter Obi has stirred political debate after doubling down on his pledge to serve only a single four-year term if elected president in 2027. In a post on X, the Labour Party politician argued that effective leadership isn’t defined by time in office but by tangible results, citing Nelson Mandela as an example. Obi defended his stance, noting his track record as governor of Anambra State, where he claims to have delivered on promises across key sectors. He vowed that, if elected president, he would restore trust in government, tackle insecurity, and revive Nigeria’s economy. However, rivals dismissed his vow as a “political gimmick,” with the ruling All Progressives Congress calling it insincere and a faction of his own party labeling it “theatrics.”
