Chad severs ties with Prince Harry-linked charity over misconduct allegations

9

Chad has abruptly terminated its 15-year conservation partnership with the charity African Parks, which previously counted Prince Harry as its president and board member, over allegations of financial misconduct. The government accused the organization of maintaining unaudited accounts, using offshore bank accounts, and showing “disrespect” toward state authorities. The authorities also accused the charity of failing to be transparent with tourism revenues. The decision removes African Parks from managing the Ennedi and Greater Zakouma ecosystems, key wildlife regions it had overseen since 2010. While the charity has overseen significant gains, such as the rebound of Zakouma National Park’s elephant population, the government claims anti-poaching efforts have recently weakened due to reduced investment. African Parks has stated it is seeking clarity from the government to ensure the continued protection of these vital landscapes.
