Mozambique revamps transport corridors to boost trade

4

Mozambique is strategically leveraging its geography to fuel a major economic transformation, betting that modern logistics will be its key to growth. The government is heavily investing in rehabilitating and expanding its primary transport corridors—Maputo, Beira, and Nacala—which serve as vital trade arteries for landlocked neighbors like Zimbabwe and Zambia. This ambitious vision goes beyond mere transit; the goal is to evolve into a regional logistics and services hub that adds value and stimulates local industrialization. The Maputo Corridor is already a major conduit for South African minerals and agricultural goods, while emerging corridors like Cabo Delgado aim to support the LNG sector. By modernizing ports, railways, and digital customs systems, Mozambique aims to increase efficiency and attract crucial private investment.
