Morocco secures landmark engine assembly deal

2

Morocco has finalized a landmark deal with French aerospace giant Safran to build Africa’s largest aircraft-engine assembly hub in the Midparc industrial zone in Nouaceur. This $405 million project will establish the world’s second-largest production site for the advanced LEAP-1A engine, which powers the Airbus A320neo aircraft. The hub will include assembly and maintenance facilities and create nearly 900 direct jobs by 2030. This expansion marks a major technological leap, allowing Morocco to manufacture entire engines, including the complex hot sections, moving beyond its previous role in producing engine components. With aerospace exports already hitting $2.1 billion in 2024, the new hub strengthens Morocco’s position as Africa’s leading aerospace producer and a key player in the global aviation supply chain, showcasing the country’s industrial innovation.
