A planned visit by US Vice President JD Vance to Kenya has been cancelled, according to an announcement from the Kenyan government. The trip, intended to reinforce ties with a key African ally, was called off after President Donald Trump decided that no US officials would attend the upcoming G20 summit in South Africa. Trump cited alleged human rights abuses against South Africa’s white Afrikaner minority as the reason for his decision, which the South African government strongly denies. Vance had intended to visit Kenya following the G20 summit, which is taking place from November 22 to 23. Meanwhile, the Kenyan foreign ministry emphasized that the cancellation will not impact the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries, with Nairobi seeking a US trade deal by the end of the year.
