Chinese exports to Africa are set to surpass $200 billion in 2025, highlighting Beijing’s growing commercial footprint despite ongoing trade tensions with the United States. Data from Chinese customs shows that $122 billion in goods were shipped to the continent during the first eight months of the year, with projections pointing to a full-year record. Africa’s exports to China totaled $87 billion in the same period, generating a trade deficit of nearly $60 billion. Key imports include machinery, heavy equipment, automobiles, and metal products. This surge continues a record-breaking streak in bilateral trade, which hit $295.6 billion in 2024. In a bid to support African trade, China this year waived tariffs for 53 of the continent’s 54 countries, reinforcing its deepening economic ties.
