Inside Namibia’s striking Ekipa pod

4

Ekipa, a striking new pod in Etosha National Park, redefines luxury design in the wild with its bold, metal-clad form. Designed by architect Sven Staby for the Gondwana Collection, the structure departs from his softer desert pods. Instead, Ekipa’s angular form—reminiscent of an anvil, a ship’s prow, or a warrior’s helmet—draws inspiration from the traditional ivory buttons worn by Aawambo women. Clad in diamond-patterned scales that mirror a pangolin’s hide, the structure is an intentional homage to its environment, designed to stand as a powerful, solitary presence like an elephant on the plain. Inside, the bold geometry continues with interiors crafted by Melanie Redecker that celebrate strength and African textures, creating a luxurious yet intimate retreat. Perfectly oriented to frame the sunrise and sunset, Ekipa offers a secluded, awe-inspiring base for experiencing the wild grandeur of Etosha.
