Morocco and Egypt reinforced their status as Africa’s tourism heavyweights in 2025, posting record visitor numbers despite regional tensions. Morocco welcomed about 19.8 million tourists, a 14% increase year on year, fueled by new flight routes, expanded airline capacity, and the hosting of the Africa Cup of Nations. Egypt closely followed with 19 million arrivals, up 21%, as travelers flocked to the newly opened Grand Egyptian Museum and revitalized Red Sea and Mediterranean resorts. The surge highlights a strong post-pandemic rebound and the sector’s importance as a source of jobs and foreign currency. With ambitious infrastructure upgrades and major global events ahead, both countries are now setting their sights on even higher visitor targets.
