Morocco’s King Mohammed VI has urged calm and continental unity after chaotic scenes disrupted the closing moments of the AFCON final between Morocco and Senegal. The match was briefly halted when Senegalese players walked off in protest over a VAR-awarded penalty, before returning to secure a 1–0 extra-time victory. Tensions later spilled into the stands as clashes broke out between some Senegalese supporters and Moroccan security. In a palace statement, the king described the incidents as regrettable but expressed confidence that African brotherhood would prevail once emotions cooled. He also hailed the tournament as a win for the continent and praised Morocco’s successful hosting, while CAF and FIFA are reviewing the unrest.
