Tensions between Eritrea and Ethiopia are flaring again after Eritrea forcefully dismissed accusations that it is carrying out military aggression and backing armed groups inside Ethiopian territory. Addis Ababa had blamed Eritrea for destabilizing border areas amid renewed clashes involving Tigrayan forces, raising fears of another regional conflict. Eritrean officials described the claims as fabricated and part of a sustained hostile campaign, while insisting they do not want to escalate the situation. Once bitter enemies turned wartime allies during Ethiopia’s Tigray conflict, relations have sharply deteriorated in recent years. Disputes over border presence and Ethiopia’s push for Red Sea access are now adding new strain to an already fragile peace.
