Dangote Refinery hits capacity, breaks global record

Large oil storage tank in Ethiopia with capacity details.

Nigeria’s Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reached its full designed capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, setting a global benchmark as the largest single-train refinery to hit nameplate output. The milestone followed successful optimization of its crude distillation and gasoline production units, pushing the facility into steady, large-scale operations. To lock in performance, the refinery has launched intensive test runs with technology partner UOP to confirm efficiency and global standards. With output ramped up, daily petrol supply can now rise to about 75 million liters, easing domestic demand. For a nation that historically imported over 80% of its refined products, this is seismic. Analysts say full operations could save Nigeria up to $10 billion annually, create jobs, stabilize prices, and strengthen the broader energy economy.
