According to the 2025 Holiday Happiness Index, Cairo, Egypt, has the second-highest number of sunshine hours among 47 global destinations, behind Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The ranking is part of a study that analyzed these destinations for five factors believed to improve travelers’ moods and experiences, including quality sleep, green spaces, good food, and physical activity-friendliness. Aside from aiding the release of happy hormones, more sunlight also means more time outdoors, which translates to more exploration and immersion in a city and its culture. Ranked 35th overall, Cairo places highest in Africa for these factors. However, when you combine this with the city’s history, culture, and heritage, which includes the Great Pyramid of Giza, Cairo’s appeal as a holiday destination increases. So, if you are planning a holiday and wish to visit a place with lots of sunshine, then Cairo is a city you should certainly consider.
