Africa’s joy is on the rise, and the continent’s youth are the ones leading the charge. According to the 2026 World Happiness Report, countries like Congo Brazzaville, Niger, and Togo are witnessing a remarkable surge in life satisfaction among their younger populations. Togo’s journey is particularly inspiring as it has climbed 20 places in global rankings since being labeled the world’s least happy nation in 2013. Stronger social support networks appear to be a key factor in this shift. While Mauritius ranked as Africa’s happiest nation at 73rd globally, other countries faced setbacks. Nigeria slipped slightly in the rankings, and South Africa dropped six places amid a staggering 57% youth unemployment rate, highlighting that the pursuit of happiness remains uneven across the region.
