The Republic of Congo’s prime minister, Anatole Collinet Makosso, has submitted his resignation along with that of the entire Cabinet. The cabinet’s departure is a standard constitutional formality that allows the long-serving President, who has been in power for over four decades, to appoint a fresh government team. Makosso, who had served as prime minister since 2021, expressed gratitude to the president for the opportunity to lead and signaled his continued loyalty. Outgoing ministers will manage day-to-day affairs until new appointments are made. Sassou Nguesso, now embarking on his fifth presidential term, used his swearing-in ceremony to pledge his commitment to resolving conflicts across the African continent—an ambitious promise from a leader whose long-held grip on power has rarely gone unchallenged.
