Bobi Wine says literature, music, and art continue to shape his political activism and vision for Uganda’s future. In an interview during a visit to Harvard University, the opposition leader and musician reflected on the writers, playwrights, and songs that have shaped his opposition to President Yoweri Museveni’s government. Wine cited Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe as the book that ignited his love for African literature, while John Kazoora’s Betrayed by My Leader—written by a former Museveni comrade who died under suspicious circumstances—remains his most personally moving text. He argued that music and literature are inseparable tools of resistance, carrying messages of protest and truth across generations. Wine also highlighted songs by Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, and Michael Jackson as part of the soundtrack that inspires his activism and “people power” movement.
