The University of Cape Town (UCT) has collaborated with HyperionDev, a global leader in online tech education, in a strategic partnership to deliver a portfolio of high-impact, career-focused online programmes designed to equip students with in-demand digital and leadership skills.

The collaboration marks a significant step forward in bridging the gap between higher education and industry, combining UCT’s academic excellence with HyperionDev’s expertise in scalable, outcomes-driven online learning.

At launch, the partnership will introduce a Leadership and Management programme, with additional offerings in areas such as full stack web development, front-end development and cloud computing planned as part of a broader rollout.

These programmes are designed to be flexible, accessible and aligned with the evolving needs of both students and employers.

Students will benefit from a blended model that combines industry-relevant curriculum design, hands-on learning, mentorship and career support, all delivered through HyperionDev’s proprietary learning platform.

The partnership responds to a growing demand for accessible, high-quality education that prepares students for the digital economy. By leveraging HyperionDev’s experience in delivering online bootcamps with global university partners, UCT aims to extend its reach to new student segments across South Africa and beyond.

UCT Vice-Chancellor Professor Mosa Moshabela said: “As a university, we are deeply committed to expanding access to high-quality education that is both academically rigorous and socially responsive. This partnership reflects our role in shaping a more inclusive and future-ready higher education system, one that equips learners not only with knowledge, but with the capabilities needed to participate meaningfully in a rapidly changing world of work.”

Professor Brandon Collier-Reed, the Deputy VC: Teaching and Learning, added: “This partnership advances a key strategic priority: widening access to credible, career-focused programmes that meet learners where they are.”

HyperionDev will lead key aspects of programme delivery, including curriculum development, student support and marketing, while collaborating closely with UCT to ensure alignment with institutional standards and brand integrity.

The programmes will be hosted on UCT-branded digital platforms, enhancing credibility and creating a seamless student experience.

Riaz Moola, Founder and CEO of HyperionDev, said: “We are incredibly proud to partner with the University of Cape Town, an institution that represents excellence in higher education across the continent. Together, we are building programmes that not only teach skills, but unlock real career opportunities for learners. This partnership is about scale, access and impact.”

This partnership reflects a broader shift in higher education toward flexible, skills-based learning models that prioritise employability and lifelong learning.

By combining academic credibility with industry-aligned delivery, HyperionDev and UCT are setting a new standard for collaborative education in Africa.
