Nigeria Records Strongest Oil Production Levels

Oil pipeline infrastructure in Nigeria supporting energy sector recovery and new oil discoveries.

Nigeria’s oil production rose sharply in April 2026, bringing the country close to fully meeting its OPEC production quota after months of operational challenges. Data from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission showed that combined crude oil and condensate output reached 1.663 million barrels per day, up from 1.546 million in March. Crude oil alone averaged 1.488 million barrels daily, representing about 99% of Nigeria’s OPEC target of 1.5 million. Major offshore assets, including Bonga, Erha, and Egina, recorded strong performances, while newer export streams such as Cawthorne crude also boosted output. Officials attributed the increase to improved field operations, restoration of disrupted production assets, and sector reforms aimed at increasing transparency and foreign exchange earnings. The rebound marks Nigeria’s strongest production performance of 2026 and could strengthen government revenues amid ongoing efforts to stabilize the economy and attract investment into the energy sector.
