Ghana Secures Funding to Fix Rural Connectivity

Ghana has secured $500 million from the World Bank to improve rural connectivity and strengthen the country’s agricultural supply chains. Over the next five years, the grant will be used to rehabilitate and maintain more than 1,000 kilometers of roads across key farming regions, including Northern, Ashanti, Volta, and Western. Poor road conditions have long hindered market access for Ghanaian farmers. This increases the cost of transporting produce and also contributes to post-harvest losses. By improving year-round access to production zones, authorities hope to boost food security, expand economic opportunities, and improve incomes for smallholder farmers. The project also supports Ghana’s broader infrastructure strategy, with the government planning to construct and rehabilitate thousands of kilometers of road across the country this year.
