Egypt is advancing plans for the fifth phase of Cairo’s third metro line, which will extend the city’s transport network directly to Cairo International Airport. The 9.2-kilometer stretch will add seven new stations between Heliopolis and the airport, significantly cutting transit time for passengers, airport workers, and residents in surrounding areas. The project forms part of Egypt’s broader transportation modernization strategy, which includes additional metro lines, electric rail systems, and a monorail network. As Greater Cairo and the New Administrative Capital continue to expand, authorities see improved public transport as essential to supporting economic growth, reducing congestion, and enhancing mobility in one of Africa’s largest metropolitan areas.
