Nigerian Army Rescues Boko Haram Hostages

Nigeria’s military says it has rescued 360 people abducted by Boko Haram during an operation in the Mandara Mountains of Borno State, one of the group’s long-standing strongholds. According to the army, troops gathered intelligence and conducted psychological operations to create internal divisions within the armed group before launching a direct assault. Two infants died from exhaustion during the operation, though the remaining survivors were evacuated for medical treatment and humanitarian support. Several Boko Haram fighters reportedly fled, while others surrendered. The operation marks a significant victory in Nigeria’s fight against insurgency, which has displaced millions and killed tens of thousands since 2009. Boko Haram has increasingly relied on kidnappings and ransom demands as a source of funding.
