New Ghana Arts Center Celebrates African Film Heritage

Studio NEiDA is designing the Falcon Cinema to become a major cultural hub dedicated to preserving and promoting African cinema. Commissioned by curator Jacqueline Nsiah, the development will feature screening rooms, an archive, educational facilities, communal spaces, and an outdoor cinema, with completion expected in 2027. A central goal is to create a permanent home for African film archives scattered around the world, ensuring their preservation for future generations. Inspired by traditional Asante compound architecture, the design prioritizes sustainability through passive cooling, natural ventilation, rainwater management, and locally sourced materials. The project also emphasizes inclusivity and community engagement while providing a platform for contemporary African filmmakers. As streaming services reshape viewing habits, Falcon Cinema seeks to offer a richer cultural experience while safeguarding the continent’s cinematic history and nurturing new creative voices.
