Africa Pushes Innovation Agenda At Major Science Forum

African leaders and professionals discussing innovation at a major science forum.

African leaders and international organisations gathered in Addis Ababa to boost cooperation on science, technology and innovation for sustainable development.

The Eighth African Science, Technology and Innovation Forum brought together key stakeholders including the African Union Commission and the African Development Bank, with calls to improve governance and scale up implementation across the continent. Monica Musenero Masanza stressed that Africa has strong ideas but lacks execution at scale, while Claver Gatete highlighted gaps in internet access and global innovation output despite the continent’s large population. Participants, including Rita Bissoonauth, emphasised the need for investment in human capital, stronger institutions and coordinated policies to unlock Africa’s potential and meet long-term development goals.
