The 11th African Regional Forum for Sustainable Development highlighted the urgency for African nations to shift from exporting raw materials to focusing on local value addition and regional trade. Key speakers, including UN officials, emphasized the need for strong state institutions, sustainable financing, and investment in science, technology, and innovation. Presidents like Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni and Zimbabwe’s Emmerson Mnangagwa urged collaboration across the continent, stressing that Africa’s youthful population and abundant resources could drive the transformation. However, the forum also pointed out the sobering reality of slow progress towards the SDGs. The attendees concluded that to meet global targets, Africa needs bold, actionable solutions, focusing on domestic resource mobilization, digital innovation, and strengthening partnerships for a sustainable future.
